Another reason we're proud to be Wake County Firefighters

          Saturday 1/21/2012
Amid the rubble of a Wake Forest home that burnt to the ground Friday night lies a small but precious grave, built for an Italian Greyhound named Adele that didn't survive the fire.

After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters buried the dog in the backyard, fashioning a cross from debris and placing a brick marker with Adele's name.

"In the middle of the night, they were tired, and they took the time to bury this dog," said neighbor Jennifer Lee. "That is above and beyond."

Residential Structure Fire in Wake Forest...

          Friday 1/20/2012
Units from Falls, Wake Forest, Stony Hill and Bay Leaf FD were dispatched to a reported residential structure fire this evening. While units were in route, it was reported that there was no one in the residence but a dog. As units got closer to the scene they reported they had heavy fire showing from a few streets away. Once on scene Falls crews began advancing hose lines into the front of the structure. This area does not have fire hydrants so water had to be shuttled in using tankers. Numerous hand lines were needed and eventually a ladder truck master stream was used to finally extinguish the fire.  No reports on the status of the dog. The Fallen of 2011. A video tribute

          Sunday January 1, 2011

The number of firefighters killed across America last year continued downward for the third straight year. Statistics compiled by the USFA showed there were 81 firefighters killed on duty in 2011. The number of deaths is the lowest since the USFA started keeping statistics in 1977.Those killed included 49 volunteers, 27 career, 3 wild land and 1 paid on-call. Records compiled showed heart attacks continue to be the leading cause of deaths, claiming at least 44 last year. January and June were the deadliest months with 14 and 12 deaths respectively, while one firefighter was killed in March and two in October. There were three incidents in which more than one firefighter was killed, the records showed.Statisticians also noted that 29.3 percent of the fatalities occurred in people under 40. Twenty-five of those killed were between 41 and 50, and 25 were between 51 and 60.

The Traps are set, but the Rats live on

          Sunday December 25, 2011
With the pending merger of the Falls FD with the Wake Forest FD we wanted to create our yearly video and dedicate it to all our members, past and the present. This video pays tribute to the effort and sacrifices made by the members of the Falls Volunteer FD during 2011 as well as some shots and footage from years gone by. Our name will change next year but the dedication to the community we serve will never change.

We hope you enjoy the video.
